He was born July 11, 1926, in Warsaw, to Thomas and Esther Bratt Garee. On Nov. 25, 1978, in Warsaw, he married Debra Davis, who survives.
A lifetime Warsaw resident, he was an expediter in the polishing department at Zimmer Inc., retiring in 1988 after 40 years. He was a member of Moose Lodge, American Legion Post 49 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1126, where he was past commander from 1972-74 and 1984-85, all in Warsaw; National Aide-De-Camp in 1981; State Americanism Chairman in 1982-83; and a drummer in the American Legion and VFW Color Guard for 35 years. He was a mailman 3rd Class in the U.S. Navy from 1944-46 in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater during in World War II.
Also surviving are two daughters, Sharon (and spouse Walter) Shepherd and Deborah (and spouse Henry) Beard, all of Columbia City; a son, Michael (and spouse Ladell) Garee, Warsaw; three sisters, Patsy (and spouse Ronald) Johns, and Alice Conway, all of Mishawaka, and Leona (and spouse Walter) Bukrajewski, South Bend; eight grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw, with military honors by members of American Legion Post 49 and VFW Post 1126.
Calling is from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
