He was born Dec. 27, 1924, in Clunette to Charles and Ruth Steffe Martin. On Aug. 20, 1948, in Warsaw, he married Patricia Harris, who died July 13, 1996.
He was a lifelong resident of Kosciusko County, and he was a 1942 graduate of Atwood High School. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II.
He was a mechanic with Kosciusko County Highway Department for 17 years, retiring in 1990. He was a member of Whitley County Coon Hunters Association, Mountain Cur Association and 4-H Shooter.
Surviving are two sons, Michael (and spouse Carol) Martin, Columbia City, and James A. (and spouse Rebecca) Martin, Manassas, Va.; three daughters: Christine (and spouse Mark) Vandewalle, Pierceton; Janet Best and Debra (and spouse Dallas) Morrison, both of Warsaw; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Miner, Atwood, and Catherine McGowen, Warsaw. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Joy Martin and Joan Taylor.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw. Burial is in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
Calling is from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
