LIGONIER – Robert Allen Noe, 78, passed away May 1, 2011, in Elkhart General Hospital.
He was born Aug. 24, 1932, in Kimmell, to Claude R. and Luella L. Thatcher Noe. He was the eighth child of 10. On Aug. 22, 1953, in Mishawaka, he married Loretta L. Minne, who died Sept. 13, 2008.
He grew up happily on his parents’ farm in Kimmell. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1951 and spent time in Hawaii before his deployment to Korea where he saw combat. Over the years, he worked at North American Van Lines, co-owned Diamond Green Lawn Care and Rental with his sons, and served as a police officer. Later in life, he continued his love of police work by volunteering as a security guard at various community functions. Other favorite pastimes included reading, sailing on his sailboat the “Oh My” and wintering in his North Fort Myers, Fla., residence.
Surviving are three children: Kathleen A. (and spouse Marvin) Hanson, Edwardsburg, Mich.; Michael A. (and spouse Tracey) Noe, Ligonier; and Douglas S. Noe, North Webster; seven grandchildren: Megan (and spouse Cary) Watson, Allison (and spouse Jon) Blair, Karen Hanson and Whitney, Morgan, Summer and Nicholas Noe; a great-grandson, Cooper Watson; and four sisters: Alice Deetz, Dorothy Wisniewski, Margaret Leslie and Sharon Chenoweth. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Christine “Tina” Noe Romaine, who died Nov. 22, 1974; and five siblings: Claudine Bolin, Norman, Ray T. and Roger Noe and Violet Mahnesmith.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Yeager Funeral Home, 1589 Lincolnway South, Ligonier, with Pastor Russell Fuhrmann officiating. Burial will be in Sparta Cemetery, Kimmell, with military honors  by members of North Webster American Legion Post 253.
Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
