Ritter's Frozen Custard has planned a National Parents Day to recognize parents for the roles they have in their children's lives.

Ritter's, 3845 Lake City Highway, Warsaw, will join with Ritter's nationwide to give parents a free cup or cone of frozen custard, tart yogurt or an Italian Ice.

Children who bring their parents to Ritter's June 6 will have the opportunity to receive a scoop of free custard from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. to show appreciation for all they do.

During a phone interview Friday, Tim Mallet, Warsaw Ritter's Frozen Custard franchise owner, said TRUFOODS LLC came up with the idea earlier this year to honor parents.

It is the first day for National Parents Day and plans are to offer the day each June 6, Mallet said.

"The idea is to bring kids out with their parents and allow the parents to be treated for a day," Mallet said.

Mallet said Ritter's often provides coupons to children for free custard at libraries, but is now honoring parents by giving them an opportunity for free custard.

Mallet said the Warsaw Ritter's has received a Shop of Excellence Award for the past five years from TRUFOODS LLC. Robert Cunningham, Warsaw Ritter's general manager, has received a managerial award for the past three years.

Ritter's Frozen Custard was founded by John and Bonnie Ritter in 1989 in Franklin, Ind., after perfecting its own frozen custard recipe. Since its debut, Ritter's has grown nationwide to 31 locations.
