NORTH MANCHESTER - Richard L. Shanahan, 72, Pierceton, died at 12:50 a.m. April 2, 2009, at Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw.

He was born Sept. 5, 1936, in Wabash County, to Paul and Gladys E. Teems Shanahan. On Sept. 18, 1960, he married Sandra K. Maloy, who died Feb. 22, 2007.

He was a credit manager for Our Sunday Visitor, Huntington, retiring in 2000. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving from 1954 to 1956. He was a member of Eel River Community Church of the Brethren, Silver Lake. He graduated from Chester High School, North Manchester, in 1954. He attended Michigan State University, Farrier School. He was a member of American Legion Post 253, North Webster.

Also surviving are a son, Sean (and spouse Pam) Shanahan, Columbia City; a daughter, Tana (and spouse Terry) Moore, Jackson, Tenn.; a sister, Patricia (and spouse Larry) Stackhouse, Bozeman, Mont.; and six grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Eel River Community Church of the Brethren, Silver Lake, with Pastor J.P. Freeman officiating. Burial will be at Fisher Cemetery, Sidney.

Calling is one hour prior to the services.
