NORTH MANCHESTER - Richard L. Middleton, 76, of North Manchester, died at 8:18 a.m. Sept. 2, 2007, in Peabody Healthcare Center, North Manchester.

He was born Sept. 12, 1930, in North Manchester, to Clarence and Josephine Hare Middleton.

He retired from GenCorp, Wabash, after 36 years of service. He was a member of Congregational Christian Church; Deming Lodge 88 F&AM, Eel River Shrine Club, Izaac Walton League and American Legion Post 286, all of North Manchester; and Mizpah Shrine, Fort Wayne. He was a founding and honorary member of North Manchester Police Dept. Reserves. He was a former member of North Manchester Volunteer Fire Dept. and Wabash County Sheriff's Dept. Reserves. He served in the U.S. Army from 1948-52.

Surviving are a son, Randall Middleton, North Manchester; two daughters, Mrs. Terry (Karen) Hewitt and Mrs. Brian (Diane) Haupert, both of North Manchester; a sister, Mrs. Glen (Mary Jane) Engle, North Manchester; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary, North Manchester, with Pastor J.P. Freeman officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery, North Manchester.

Calling is from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with a Masonic service at 7:30 p.m.
