NAPPANEE - Richard "Hinge" Arnott, 86, of Waterford Crossing, Goshen, and formerly of Nappanee, died at 1:55 p.m. March 14, 2011, in his residence, after a short illness.

He was born Jan. 13, 1925, in Milford, to Donavan and Lydia Zentz Arnott. On Oct. 19, 1947, in Nappanee, he married Delores J. Kurtz, who died March 5, 2007.

He graduated from Nappanee High School in 1946 and Barber School in Indianapolis. He was a barber in Nappanee for many years and worked at Utilimaster, retiring in 1990. He was a World War II Navy veteran, serving in the South Pacific. He was a member of First Brethren Church and Nappanee American Legion, a former member of the Lions Club and the Nappanee Zoning Board and served on the Elkhart County Park Board.

Surviving are a son, Dennis (and spouse Donna) Arnott, The Villages, Fla.; two daughters, Donna (and spouse LaDoit) Hollar, Milford, and Doreen (and spouse Keith) Lambright, Shipshewana; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Donavan Arnott Jr., Leesburg, Ga.; and a sister, Mary Helen (and spouse Levi) Tobias, Nappanee. He was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at First Brethren Church, Nappanee, with the Rev. Tom Schiefer officiating. Burial will be in Union Center Cemetery with a military graveside service by members of Nappanee American Legion.

Calling is from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee, and one hour prior to the service Friday at the church.
