FORT WAYNE - Richard F. Schaaf, 82, died April 14, 2009, in Dupont Hospital, Fort Wayne.

He was born in Fort Wayne.

He was director of the physical plant at Purdue for 17 years and building manager at One Summit Square for five years before retiring. He was a U.S. Navy World War II and Korean War veteran. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, Summit City Lodge 170 F&AM and Scottish Rite, Valley of Fort Wayne. He was a Master Gardener, past president and charter member of the Historic Automobile Association and a member of the Exchange Club.

Surviving are two sons, Dennis (and spouse Barbara) Schaaf, Somerset, and Jeff Schaaf, Fort Wayne; two grandchildren, Stephen Schaaf, Chesterton, and Adam (and spouse Rachel) Schaaf, Fort Wayne; a brother, Robert (and spouse Berna) Schaaf, Madison, S.D.; and a longtime companion, Pat Hudson, Fort Wayne.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at D.O. McComb and Sons Pine Valley Park Funeral Home, 1320 E. Dupont Road, Fort Wayne. Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery with military rites by members of the U.S. Navy.

Calling is from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with a Masonic service at 7:30 p.m.
