Richard D. McLaughlin, 87, passed away at 8 a.m. June 21, 2014, in Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw.
He was born Jan. 16, 1927, in St. Regis, Mont., to Thomas A. and Theoda Hoppus McLaughlin. In November 1948, in Pierceton, he married Billie Jo Maggart, who preceded him in death Oct. 31, 1985.
He graduated in 1945 from Warsaw High School. He entered the United States Army April 20, 1945, in Indianapolis. During his tour of duty he proudly served as a member of General Douglas MacArthur’s honor guard. PFC Honor Guard Company GHQ was honorably discharged Dec. 31, 1946, from Fort Sheridan, Ill. He was a lifetime Warsaw resident. He was a cable splicer for United Telephone where he was employed for 40 years, retiring in 1988. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed gardening.
Surviving are two sons, Michael (and spouse Linda) McLaughlin and Rick McLaughlin, all of Warsaw; a daughter, Debby McLaughlin, Warsaw; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Reesha McLaughlin, in October 2012.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw, with Pastor Bob Jarboe, Kosciusko Home Care and Hospice chaplain, officiating. Military honors will be conducted by Warsaw American Legion Post #49 and VFW Post #1126 following the service. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
Calling is from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Dean was born in 1938 to Bram and Ruth Heisler Miner of Etna Green. In 1974, he married Jill Geiger, who survives.
