Richard D. 'Dick" Underhill, 93, of Warsaw, died at 7:05 p.m. May 3, 2010, in Miller's Merry Manor, Warsaw.

He was born Oct. 16, 1916, in Van Buren, to Tony and Marie Anderson Underhill. On Sept. 8, 1948, in Portland, he married Bernadine Steed, who died in 1995.

Living most of his adult life in Kosciusko County, he was a self-employed businessman in Silver Lake, Columbia City and Warsaw, retiring as owner of Service Liquor Store in 1973. He was a life member of American Legion Post 49 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1126, Warsaw. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army 20th Air Force in India, China and the Maranas Islands.

Surviving are a daughter, Cristy Loomis, Warsaw; a son, Randall Underhill, Lutz, Fla.; three brothers: Dr. William Robert Underhill, Ames, Iowa; Edward Underhill, Warsaw; and David Underhill, Fort Wayne; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Patricia Kingston, who died in 1998.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, 2290 Provident Court, Warsaw, with Chaplain Bob Jarboe officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Lakeview Cemetery, Silver Lake.

Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
