He was born Feb. 2, 1920, in Taylor County, Ky., to Elmer and Nettie Hunt Bennett. On Sept. 5, 1948, he married Evelyn Miller, who survives.
He worked as a pastor for 36 years, serving the North and South Conference of the United Methodist Church in Indiana, including the towns of Gary, Rensselaer, Churubusco, Winamac and retiring from Dayton UMC. He was a member of the North Webster United Methodist Church and was a Mason for more than 45 years. He was an Army Air Force World War II veteran.
Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Jay (Karen) Harris, Pierceton, and Mrs. Doug (Marilyn) Akers, Lebanon; two sons, Mark (and wife Susan) Bennett, Richmond, Va., and Tim (and wife Colleen) Bennett, Omaha, Neb.; three brothers, Shirley Allen Bennett and Bernard Bennett, both of Indianapolis; and Michael Bennett, Mooresville; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by an infant sister.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at North Webster United Methodist Church with the Rev. Scott Mann officiating. Burial will be in North Webster Cemetery, Mock Addition.
Calling is from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Mishler-Eastlund Funeral Home, Harris Chapel, Syracuse, and a half hour prior to the service at the church Sunday.
