Retirement Community Comes To Warsaw

Warsaw is the latest home to Yellow Retirement Communities, a family-owned, Fort Wayne-based company.
The company is owned by brothers Jason and J.R. Parent, who have built independent living complexes in a dozen cities in northern Indiana over the past two decades.
Every location shares certain similarities, J.R. Parent said: single-story units with attached garages and prices comparable to apartment housing, as well as a distinctive paint job.
“People know us because of our yellow siding and half-round windows,” he said. “It’s kind of our trademark.”
He added that a few things are unique about the Warsaw location, on Parent Street directly behind Walmart. Besides the stores within walking distance, there are wetlands directly to the west that will have benches overlooking them.
“Those will always be preserved,” Parent noted. “We’re excited about this location because of the fact that it’s tucked back in, (and) we want to make sure people know it’s tucked back here.”[[In-content Ad]]They started work on the Warsaw location a year and a half ago. About 24 residents have moved in, and more units are being built with an opening date of mid October.
At $665 a month rent, with water and sewer covered, and in-house alarms and monitors available, he said the units compare to apartments in the area. The housing is not government subsidized.
“It’s not for everybody,” he observed. He described their average resident as someone who “doesn’t need assisted care, but they need a safe, secure place among their peers, where their family can visit them – and not because they need something fixed.”
