Retired Pilot

Editor, Times-Union:

I recently retired as a professional pilot after a 41 year aviation career. For 35 of those 41 years I was based, and operated from, the Warsaw Municipal Airport.

The current plan being discussed to close CR100E, extend the East/West runway and lower the high tension wires to the east of the runway is not justifiable. Although I have tremendous respect for Dr. Dane Miller, his recent comment in Times-Union's Dec. 4 "News Views" that this project is a "no brainer" is an indication to me that Dr. Miller has been misinformed. I am confident that a survey of aircraft operators would reveal that very few flights are affected by runway restrictions, either by performance or safety reasons.

At what cost can we tax people to ensure that Company A is not inconvenienced by a diverted landing at Ft. Wayne or an altered departure to eliminate that 30 minute mid-flight stop for fuel.

Correct me if I am wrong, I thought the American voters just overhauled a House of Representatives that supported ill-conceived and irresponsible expenditures, but yet the same wasteful spending is being promoted to the residents of Kosciusko County as logical.

I truly feel that the supporters of this project should have a long talk with themselves and question whether the huge expense and tremendous inconvenience placed on the county residents justifies another burden on taxpayers.
