He was born Jan. 7, 1929, in South Whitley, to Asher and Grace Leota Lepley Joy Carper. His wife, Betty Louise Carper, survives.
He retired from the U.S. Navy, where he served in Korea and Vietnam. He was a member of Hampton Park Baptist Church, where he was an usher and was active with Men for Missions.
Also surviving are two sons, Brad (and spouse Rachel) Carper and Alan (and spouse Jonna) Carper, all of Greenville; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Betty Curtis, Warsaw, and Arlene Valentine, Pierceton. He was preceded in death by a sister and a brother.
Services were today at Hampton Park Baptist Church. Burial was in MJ Dolly Cooper Veteran's Cemetery, Anderson, S.C.
