Report Calls Triton 'Stable'
July 28, 2016 at 4:25 p.m.
BOURBON - Triton School Corp.'s feasibility report is in.
The report, which examines the school's and community's long-term demographics, capital debt, school facilities and programs, says that Triton is a "stable" corporation that should easily handle a debt of up to $14 million for much-needed improvements.
Improvements are recommended for both the junior-senior high and elementary school, though most suggestions are aimed at the upper level school.
Infrastructure improvements suggested for the high school are: enhanced electrical work to support technology, updated security systems to better monitor the school's visitor flow and improved heating and ventilation systems.
Improvements suggested for academic programs include learning spaces for special education and life skills classes, more space for the modern arts program, bigger student lockers to accommodate large textbooks and a more definite way to separate junior high students from senior high school students.
Other suggestions include providing a more appropriate space for the school's weight room, resurfacing the track and field area and moving the athletic laundry facility from its current location in the boy's locker room to an area accessible to all students.
Elementary school suggestions are to improve the school's safety and security systems and design an appropriate space for the school's new extended day kindergarten program.
A facilities audit is under way that will further examine the school's infrastructure and address the feasibility committee's recommendations. A report will be presented to the board June 13. [[In-content Ad]]
