    ROCHESTER - Cassey Pontius captured individual medalist honors Tuesday to lead the Tippecanoe Valley girls golf team to a victory over Maconaquah.

Pontius fired a 9-hole total of 46 as the Lady Vikings posted a 201-287 victory in action at the Mill Creek Golf Course.

    An area officer has turned in his state police badge. Trooper Larry Yeiter retired to his chicken farm near Atwood last week after 20 years with the Indiana State Police.

    The heat wave gave Warsaw city school pupils an unexpected half-day holiday this afternoon as Superintendent Carl Burt dismissed the students at 11:30 with the announcement that they need not report back until 8:30 tomorrow.

With the temperatures remaining in the 90s for the 12th consecutive day, Supt. Burt decided that it was just too hot for a full day of classes on this first day of school.

    Ole Tollefson Foxvog, 314 N. Buffalo St., a native of Norway, and Mike C. Zahartzis, of South Indiana Street, a native of Greece, were admitted to American citizenship and took the oath of allegiance before Judge L.W. Royse in circuit court today.
