October 13 1989

    The Warsaw Community High School choirs have been selected by Delta Records to record an album of Christmas music for distribution in the Warsaw area. The recording session was recently held at First United Methodist Church with choir director Scott Avery conducting. With the release of the albums scheduled for Dec. 1, recordings will be available through choir members and at selected retail stores in the community.

    At half-time of Friday night's Warsaw-Columbia City game, six young men received trophies for their winning performances at Warsaw's local Punt, Pass and Kick competition. They are Denny Eckert, Todd Etter, Kirk Manning, Jim Coplen, Rob Reneker and Dave Anderson. Also present were Dick Van Zile of the Warsaw Jaycees, Bob Smith, president of Smith Ford, and Ron Yeiter of the Jaycees, representing the sponsoring groups.

October 13 1949

    Warsaw high school's "B" team, consisting of varsity football reserves, scored in the final three minutes of play Thursday evening to defeat the Goshen reserves, 7 to 0. The game was played at Goshen.

Don Derry scored the only touchdown of the game on a quarterback sneak from inside the 1-yard line. The sneak was set up, however, by a successful pass to Bob Randels, followed by a smash to the 1-foot line by Eddie Johnson, speedy sophomore fullback.

October 13 1924

    Frank Leas, well-known Warsawan, will complete 33 consecutive years as railway mail clerk on Oct. 15, 1924, during which time he has always lived in Warsaw and run on the Pennsylvania Railroad out of Warsaw. Two years ago, and again a few days ago, Leas received an extension of two years' service, although he was entitled to retire several years ago.
