Merle Custer of Wabash won the senior division at the state hand corn husking contest held at the David Penrod farm, North Manchester, by shucking 247 pounds in 20 minutes. Second was Sam Tolley of Miami County with 239 pounds; third was Arden Shaffer of rural Silver Lake with 229 pounds and fourth was Delbert Haupert, 1988 state champion, with 221 pounds.

Peg Beer, 17, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Philip Beer, Milford, was crowned Homecoming Queen for 1974 at Wawasee High School during the half-time of the football game last night. Placing the tiara on the new queen was last year's Wawasee Homecoming Queen, Shirley Miller.

Outshooting all the celebrities of the shotgun, rifle and pistol, Lt. Col. Milo S. Snyder, of Cromwell, well known to all soldiers of this vicinity, has been proclaimed all-round champion of small arms marksmen of the United States. Snyder won the title last week in the all-round events at the national shoot at Camp Perry at which foreign marksmen participated. Capt. L.L. Rarick, member of the Indiana team, which finished 42nd, has returned to Warsaw.
