November 29 1989

    A team of five math students from Warsaw Community High School competed in the Annual Mathematics Field Day at Manchester College, North Manchester, and emerged as the second place winner. In the individual competition, the WCHS team took first prize as well as five second prizes. The team includes Sara Sterk, Stephanie Leslie, Dan Zink, Matt Schroeder and Chris Sanders.

    Jeff Gilbertson, 3-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Leslie N. Gilbertson, 19831 Cambridge Drive, Warsaw, whispered his Christmas wishes to Santa Claus on the steps of the Kosciusko County courthouse after the North Pole gift-giver arrived via horsedrawn wagon in downtown Warsaw. He was accompanied by Warsaw Community High School band members and a police escort.

    Mrs. Dale Beeson was the lesson leader on "Braided Rugs" at the meeting of the Prairie Township Home Economics Club, which was held at the home of Mrs. Seth Yeiter of Prairie Township. For the meditation Mrs. Charles Smith gave the poem, "The Boy and the Flag."

    Of 352 eighth-grade students who were graduated from Kosciusko County schools last spring, 322 are now attending high school, according to the October report of County Truant Officer Festus Minear. Formerly nearly all students dropped out upon completion of the eighth grade. This year only 30 failed to continue their studies into the high school.
