    Kosciusko County Highway Department retiree Ron Norman was recognized recently by the county commissioners and the highway superintendent. Norman was employed by the county for 36 years.

    Word was received that Ray Beatty, Leesburg, found a 12-inch yellow sponge mushroom while hunting the plant near North Webster.

"He found several others," said his wife. "He was scouting the area for edible mushrooms and hit the jackpot when he spotted the mushroom in some woods."

50 Years Ago
May 9 1952

    Several thousand tulips are now in bloom at the Gast gardens on the west edge of Akron. The garden attract thousands of visitors every spring. The Single Earls and Triumph tulips are all in bloom, and the Darwin, Cottage and other classes are showing color. There are also 20 varieties of jonquils, daffodils and narcissi in bloom at this time.

May 9 1927

    Four years ago today (May 9) according to Joe Campfield, three inches of snow fell in Warsaw. Today the thermometer here stood above 80 almost all day. The snowfall is verified by a photograph taken by Carl Shinn showing his little son playing in the snow.
