    Jennifer Harrell, daughter of Duane and Jane Zentz, Bourbon, and John Harrell, Mishawaka, has been named by the U.S. Achievement Academy as a U.S. National Award winner in mathematics.

The Academy recognizes less than 10 percent of all American high school students, so it is a prestigious honor for the Triton Junior-Senior High School student.

    Ever since Alva Ketering can remember, a dogwood tree with pale green blossoms has been growing in a woods on his farm. Today the tree is nearly 20 feet tall, phenomenal for the usually squat, rambling tree.

Named among the "Big Trees of Indiana" recently, Ketering's dogwood is nestled in a woods carpeted with wildflowers and pillared with oak, maple, mountain ash and gum trees around a shallow pond where frogs and turtles make their home.

    Byron Lester, Winona Lake, who with Richard Stewart, Warsaw, attended the state convention of the Travelers' Protection association as delegates from the Warsaw post, was honored by being elected to the state board of directors.

May 27 1924

    A stray pig poked his nose in the doorway of The Times building last evening, then wandered down the street and disappeared in the darkness near the State Bank, unheeding pedestrians. Some farmer will find his head short one member this morning. Mr. Hog wended his way through moving autos and dodged street cars with city celerity.
