    Warsaw Community High School mathematics teacher Gene Gossman has been chosen as one of six nominees for the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Science and Mathematics Teaching program.

One math and one science teacher from each of the finalist groups will be chosen the first week of September as the 1989 presidential awardees from Indiana. Each winner will receive a $7,500 grant to be used for classroom needs and for a trip to Washington.

    Janice Jean Sharkey, a junior at Triton High School, Bourbon, was recently notified that she is to be featured in the Eighth Annual Edition of "Who's Who Among American High School Students, 1973-74," the largest student award publication in the nation. Janice is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. Allen Sharkey, Rt. 2, Bourbon.

    Sixty of the 75 members of Co. L. 152nd infantry, the Warsaw National Guard unit, made qualifying scores in "operation bull's-eye" at Camp Atterbury over the weekend, an examination of the records revealed.

Four qualified as experts, with scores of 182 or better, 25 as sharpshooters, with scores of at least 165, and 31 as marksmen, with marks of not less than 143.

    "Bubbles" Hargrave, Warsaw ball player, catcher for the Cincinnati Reds, may be out of the game for some time since last Sunday, when he was struck on the hand by a pitched ball when he was batting. It is feared he sustained a broken bone.
