    Mike Snipes and Rick Rivera are both headed to the National Golden Gloves Tourney at Knoxville, Tenn.

Snipes, a two-time state heavyweight champion, won last month's regional tourney at Toledo. Rivera was chosen to compete in the vacant bantamweight division.

    Friends and neighbors of Kenny Walters, Rt. 2, Akron, who recently underwent surgery, came to his aid on Saturday and plowed 75 acres of corn and bean ground in approximately 3-1/2 hours.

Those who labored in the fields were Orville Swick, Leonard Swick, Paul McFarland, Jim Adams, Merl Harrold, Dorris Harrold, Dick Harrold, Top Hopkins, Dave Feldman, John Gray, Wayne Baumgartner, Dwight Stafford and Loren Cumberland.

May 10 1949

    Marion C. Deeter, Milford, brings us a grasshopper to prove that they are appearing early this year. He reports that his son, Paul Thomas, found a 'hopper more than two weeks ago but didn't grab it. Marion told him to keep the next one, and he got one while plowing on May 6. Mr. Deeter saw some crickets on May 5.

    Tommy Blue, 18, son of James Blue, south of Mentone, who on Saturday afternoon was rendered unconscious for 10 minutes when stunned by lightning which struck near him, was fully recovered today and able to be up and about his home. He was in bed two days. The lad was found unconscious near his home in the midst of a terrific hailstorm.
