Mrs. Wilson Weirick, of OUR TOWN, brought in a picture from a Rhode Island newspaper, showing Eugene Sumpter, former Warsaw High School athlete, signing an entry blank to enlist as one of the fleet air detachment and NAS Flyers baseball candidates. Gene, who enlisted in the navy last fall, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Sumpter, East Center Street.

A pop vending slot machine refrigerator contrivance patented by Harold A. Smythe and Elmo Calvert, Warsaw, has been under severe test of scores of youngsters who have tried to beat the machine, which has been installed at the Lewis Sporting Goods Store. The boys were told to try and get a bottle out without paying for it if possible. Their efforts led to several improvements which have been made and now the machine is believed boy burglar proof.
