    Lorie Armey, Rt. 21, Warsaw, was recently awarded the Golden Poet Award for 1989 from the World of Poetry.

Armey's entry "Mother," earned the highest honor awarded by the World of Poetry. The presentation of the award will take place at the Washington, D.C., in September during the Fifth Annual World of Poetry Convention.

    Michael K. Deardorff, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roger Deardorff, Akron, has joined Kokomo attorney David L. Briscoe in the practice of law. Deardorff was admitted to the bar by the Indiana Supreme Court on May 1. He received his bachelor's degree from Purdue University in 1971 and was awarded the doctor of jurisprudence degree from Valparaiso University Law School last December.

    A formal session of John C. Peterson Post of the American Legion was attended Tuesday night by 127 members. Charles McNatt won the attendance award drawing of $90. Candidates, who were voted into membership to bring the total membership to 945 members were, Rev. Carroll N. Odell, Thomas Guy Jr. and Rex J. Symonds.

    More than 40 street light lamp bulbs were broken here on Friday night as result of lightning striking the lighting circuit of the east part of Warsaw. Linemen were unable to locate just where the lightning struck the circuit.
