    For the third time in his career Warsaw's Denny Hepler will be playing in the U.S. Open.

Hepler, the golf pro at Stonehenge Golf Course, qualified for this third U.S. Open by firing a 36-hole total 143 at the Cog Hill Golf and Country Club in Chicago.

    Cedric Decker, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Decker, Rt. 2, Claypool, is attending the Farm Forestry Camp at Versailles State Park this week.

Cedric was selected by the 4-H award committee because of his interest in forestry and conservation and his past record in 4-H conservation activities.

    At tractor-pulling contests held Wednesday and Thursday evenings in Pierceton, first prize in the lightweight division went to Leo Mort, with a percentage pull of 166 percent. Paul Blanchard was second and Olson Cole and Allen King tied for third.

Allen King won the first prize in the heavyweight division with a pull of 191 percent. Guy Lemon was second and Joe Metzger was third.

    L.A. Kelly, of north of Warsaw, recently captured a large turtle and six smaller ones in the Tippecanoe River, near Monoquet. The large turtle weighs 37-1/2 pounds and measures 18 inches across. Mr. Kelly wishes to sell this turtle, so here's a chance for lovers of turtle soup to put on a real banquet.
