    Mike Schmidt won the local round of the second annual Marsh Super-Sacker contest. The contest is part of Marsh Supermarkets' company-wide event. Schmidt has been sacking for a year, and was given two shares of Marsh stock as a prize. He then competed in Marion Thursday, but got ... sacked.

    Three Wawasee High School students, Ralph Reiff, North Webster, and Larry Allen and Steve Kroh, both of Syracuse, attended the Fellowship of Christian Athletes national conference at Oral Roberts University, Tulsa, Okla., last week.

A number of national sports figures talked to the students attending and told them how the Christian life had helped them in sports.

    Four members of the Warsaw High School band are attending Al Stoddon's school for baton twirlers being held this week at Goshen. They are Donna Ford, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Ford, Road 30E; Janet Walter, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T.R. Walter, North Maple Avenue; Jan Bumbaugh, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jud Bumbaugh, Gilliam Street; and Marjorie Howard, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Howard, East Main Street.

    First new wheat of the season was purchased by the Smith Milling and Grain Co. from Orb Silveus of near Leesburg. Silveus delivered about 800 bushels of wheat and was paid $1.16 per bushel.
