    The Kosciusko County Welfare Department honored Mary Besson with a retirement party Friday morning at John Wong's Restaurant. Besson has been with the department and worked with food stamps a total of 14 years according to an office employee.

    The Mentone freshman team captured the four-team Triton tourney title in weekend action. Mentone exited from the tourney with an excellent 8-1 mark. Coach Bob Igney's team included Jeff Howard, Jim Webb, Tod Miner, Bill Creighton, Eddie Drudge, Ryan Williams, Bill Hardesty and Jim McFadden.

    The first robin and the first dandelion of the early spring were reported this morning to The Times from Prospect Hill here. Mrs. W.B. Siders spied the robin in her plum tree and has her neighbor, J.M. Sloan, as a witness. The dandelion was found in the Siders' front yard.
