AKRON - Akron School recently received the School Improvement Award presented by H. Dean Evans, superintendent of Indiana's Department of Education. The School Improvement Award is presented in recognition of demonstrated significant improvement in the following four areas during the 1989-90 school year: Mathematics proficiency, ISTEP total battery score, language arts proficiency and attendance rate.

MILFORD - The Old Hotel, an 86-year-old downtown Milford landmark, was gutted by a five-hour fire that halted Lakeland School District buses for two hours.

Dale Miner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Miner, Warsaw, has accepted a position with the Civil Aeronautics Authority as aircraft communicator in Alaska. He is now en route to a CAA school in Oklahoma for instruction prior to going to Alaska.

Two Warsaw dog fanciers came back Sunday with silver cups and blue ribbons from the Howard County pet stock show held at Kokomo last week.
