Feb. 28 1988

    Lowell Zile and Duane Sells were recognized for 30 years of service to the Silver Lake Fire Department. John Teeter, fire chief, presented a gold badge to each man for the occasion. Zile was voted fireman of the year for 1987, and Sells held the same honor in 1986.

Feb. 28 1973

    Lyman Wilson recently celebrated his 35th anniversary with R. R. Donnelley and Sons Co. Lyman graduated from the Donnelley apprentice program in 1946 in Chicago. Lyman and his wife Kay live at 1308 W. Rivercrest Drive, Warsaw, and have a daughter, Susan, and a son, Eugene.


50 Years Ago
Feb. 28 1948

    Fifty-seven band, vocal and piano students from the Warsaw junior and senior high schools gave a good account of their musical talents Saturday as they walked off with several high honors in the state solo and ensemble contest held at Fort Wayne. Warsaw students were rated "superior" in 23 contests.


75 Years Ago
Feb. 28 1923

    Thursday a force of men started moving a house from S.V. Robison's farm, east of Oswego, to his Leesburg property. They had reached a point near the Jesse Crowl farm when the roadway became so soft they were compelled to stop work and let the house stand right in the center of the road, where it will remain until road conditions become more favorable.
