Feb. 14 1988

    The culmination of a major building project was recognized Sunday afternoon at Akron Elementary School when the new additions at Mentone, Akron and Burket elementary schools were dedicated. Fred McSherry, president of the Tippecanoe Valley School Corporation board of trustees, presented plaques bearing the keys to the new buildings to pupils representing the three schools: Ryan See, Akron; Mindy Metzger, Mentone; and Heidi Bratten, Burket.

    Kathleen M. Bush, a senior at Mentone High School, is winner of the County Good Citizen Contest, sponsored by Anthony Nigo chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution at Mentone. She is the daughter of Kenneth Bush. She plans to enter college in the fall and hopes to become a lawyer.

    Harry Liebrock, son of Mr. and Mrs. G.F. Liebrock, of East Center Street, is taking his maiden sea voyage as a U.S. sailor aboard the battleship Maryland, which recently put to sea from New York naval yards, bound for Balboa, Cuba and Panama, and Pacific seaports for the annual winter maneuvers. The Maryland is expected to start its return trip on March 15.
