    Warsaw girls' freshman basketball team defeated Goshen 42-13 to move to 5-2 for the season.

Warsaw was led in scoring by Amy Roy's eight points. Lesley Bryan added seven points, while Jennifer Stiver chipped in with six points, as did Dee Harrison. Bryan led the team with eight rebounds and Stiver added three assists and Harrison had three steals.

    Four members of The Times-Union staff captured first place awards at the annual meeting of the Hoosier State Press Association in Indianapolis.

City editor Mrs. Steve (Jo) Rector won for distinguished community service reporting titled "County Taxpayers Losing $1 Million"; managing editor Norm Hagg and art director Steve Rector won first place for their front page story titled "$150,000 Blaze Destroys Johnson Lumber Complex"; and staff writer Mrs. William (Jo Ann) Vrabel won for human interest reporting titled "The Poor."

    There are eight children in the E.C. Miller family, and four of them have been married at least 50 years. Those four enjoyed a reunion recently at the Dan Mock home. Mrs. Mock is another child of the Miller family.

The four who were there and the dates they were married were Mr. and Mrs. Charles Mock, Nov. 17, 1888; Mr. and Mrs. E.E. Shoemaker, Nov. 15, 1890; Mr. and Mrs. Levi Miller, Nov. 28, 1891; and Mr. and Mrs. John Miller, Nov. 12, 1892.

    The annual advent of Jack the Peeper is reported again on North West Street here. About midnight for the past week persons on West Street have heard and seen him. He is described as a tall young man by a person who gave him a chase recently.
