December 16 1989

    Dennis DeVries, a 1977 graduate of Warsaw Community High School, received a Ph.D. degree from Ohio State University last week.

DeVries, the son of Harold and Jean DeVries of Winona Lake, earned his B.S. degree from ODU in 1985. His graduate work has focused on aquatic ecology. His master's dealt with the influence of larval fishes on lakes and reservoirs.

    The Tippecanoe Valley School Board approved appointments of three new janitors for the Tippecanoe Valley Schools at a meeting in Mentone.

Names of the two men and one woman approved for the appointments are Paul Steele, Wayne Wiley and Juanita Moore. The appointments will become official Jan. 1.

    Christmas trees at Hall Hardware are $2 for a 7 to 8 foot tree and $1.50 for a 6 to 7 foot tree. Tree stands with a water receptacle are $1.19 and tree lights are 98 cents for an eight light set or $3.59 for a 15 light set.

    Today Lewis Renier, well-known Sidney farmer, appeared at the Chinworth Supply Co., Warsaw, and surprised William Chinworth, when he said he wanted to buy a set of fly nets for his horses. Renier drove up in a Ford. "Flies pretty bad down your way?" asked Chinworth as Renier walked out with his horse fly nets.
