    Brian Slaat won the Kosciusko County Fair demolition derby held July 12. Brian Wall was second and Tony Bowman third.


25 Years Ago

August 5 1981

    Beth Ann Bower was named "Teenager of the Year" by Warsaw Elks Lodge 802 in a banquet held at the Elks. A $250 scholarship was presented to her so that she may continue her studies at Valparaiso University.


50 Years Ago

August 5 1956

    Neighbors got together and harvested wheat and oats recently at the Frank Morris farm near Silver Lake. Frank is a patient in the VA hospital at Indianapolis. Mrs. Morris said she knew many of the men postponed work in their own fields to operate combines in the group project. The workers were Ronald Richard, James Paxten, Robert Weimer, Lawrence, Rosewell and Blair Gagnon, Cecil Smith, Don Spice, Adlen and Joe Morris, Roy Schipper and Delbert Hamilton. Last spring when Morris was recuperating from his first operation, neighbors planted the corn crop.


75 Years Ago

August 5 1931

    The night blooming cacti at the home of Mr. and Mrs. C.A. Rovenstine in Atwood was the center of much attention. On Wednesday evening of each week Atwood has free talkie movies and this rare plant was blooming and when it was announced over the talkie at the close of the show the people came in large numbers to see the flowers of this unusual plant. The plant had 18 buds, 16 of them coming into full bloom. It was a great sight to see the large white flowers and scent their fragrance.
