    Leafy Hudson of Mentone was notified recently that a poem she wrote, "Perpetuity," will be published in "In the West of Ireland," by Enright House of County Kerry, Ireland. Hudson also attended a workshop sponsored by University of Ireland more than a month ago that has no connection to the publishing house.

    Diana J. Smith, Rt. 1, Mentone, is one of the top 10 award-winners in a recent program conducted by the Reader's Digest in which the magazine solicited suggestions for President Jimmy Carter for its readers all over the country.

Diana's entry won a cash award of $500 for second prize from the Digest, and will be sent to the President, along with the proposals of the other nine leading prize-winners.

    Russell Williamson, 10-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Williamson, residing 1/2 mile south of Etna Green on Ind. 19, Sunday won the state heavyweight tractor-pulling contest, which was the outstanding feature of the closing days of the annual 4-H fair at Rochester.

Young Williamson, operating a tractor weighing 5,400 pounds was able to pull a 10,000 pound load. Williamson had a percentage pull of 183.82.

    Maxwell Middleton, Syracuse, youngster rescued two small Syracuse boys from drowning yesterday. Scottie Hollett, fishing off the Huntington Street bridge in the town of Syracuse, lost his balance and fell in six feet of water. His brother Junior in attempting a rescue, also fell in. The Middleton youngster happening along on a bicycle, jumped in the water and brought both safely to shore.
