    Construction crews have nearly completed work on the first three floors of the Winona Hotel. The first phase of the renovation includes 13 two- and three-bedroom condominium units on the first three floors. They should be ready for occupancy next summer. The building, built in 1888, at one time featured running balconies off all the rooms. These will be back in place, offering views of Winona Lake on the south side and on two-thirds of the building on the “back side.”

     Checking Out - After serving more than 10 years, Judy Hughes, a member of the Warsaw Public Library, will officially step down next month from her position. The Warsaw Community School Board is expected to name a replacement in the near future. She is the wife of Thomas Hughes, who is president of Zimmer Inc.

     Tom Brown, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Brown, of Silver Lake, returned recently from Harjavalta, Finland, where he had spent the summer as a representative of the Youth for Understanding teen-age exchange program. Before returning home, Tom spent several days in Helsinki visiting in the home of Tapio Tilto. Tapio spent last year in Warsaw.
75 Years Ago
   Warsaw will be the site for the Indiana Industrial and Volunteer firemen’s 1938 state firemen’s convention, it was definitely assured by Fire Chief Charles Frush. At a regular monthly meeting recently Leolin (Bud) Moon was appointed representative to the  state board meeting to be held at Fort Wayne at which plans will be made for the holding of the convention here in June.[[In-content Ad]]
