A contingent of Winona Lake residents and town officials traveled to Merrillville recently to receive an Indiana Association of Cities and Towns Community Achievement Award. Attending the presentation were: Dr. Dane Miller, Winona Restoration Partners LLC; Dr. Ronald Manahan, president of Grace College and Seminary; Jerry Clevenger, town council member; Mary Louise Miller; Craig Snow, town council member; Judy Reneker, redevelopment commission member; Brent Wilcoxson, Winona Restoration Partners LLC; Karen Shingledecker, clerk’s office employee; Craig Allebach, town coordinator; Retha Hicks, clerk-treasurer; Ellen Swaim, clerk’s office employee; David Delp, town council member; and Jeff Carroll, town council member.

Midshipman Fourth Class Stephen C. Yeager was recently visited by his family and friends during Parents’ Weekend at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. Yeager, who graduated last spring from Warsaw Community High School, is one of 1,363 members of the Academy Class of 1990. Among those present for the reunion were: Todd Yeager, Laura Yeager, Dixie Yeager, Steve Yeager, Ben Yeager, Jill Grose, Charles Yeager and Judy Yeager.

50 Years Ago

Dedication of the New Maple Park School will be held at North Manchester Nov. 5. Plans are for an open house for interested persons. No formal program is planned by the Chester-North Manchester school board.

Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Zuck, of Winona Lake, are on a three-week tour of the southern states.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Caywood of Warsaw, and Mr. and Mrs. Tom Colter, of Warsaw, left by plane for a one-week trip to Fort Charlotte and Miami, Fla.

75 Years Ago

Mr. and Mrs. Elmer B. Funk and Miss Marian Herrick have just returned from a visit to southern Indiana, The Shades, and the following state parks: Turkey Run, McCormick’s Creek, Spring Mill, Brown County, and the old town of Nashville, the artists’ colony in Brown County, and the Goldfish Hatchery at Indianapolis.
