Although the 1950s-era Bell 47G OH 13 and Hiller make for an interesting display in Gerald Romine's back yard, he'd much rather have the helicopters on view elsewhere. The perfect place for the single-rotor choppers would be under roof at the Bell Aircraft Museum, according to Romine, who serves as that board's president. The current facility is chock full of Lawrence D. Bell memorabilia, illustrating the life and career of the Mentone native and aviation pioneer. There's no space for indoor exhibits - yet. But expansion plans are being explored.

After 17 hours of fighting erratic temperature changes, Brendt Smith completed one of the most extraordinary feats in Kosciusko County lake history when he finished swimming across 52 lakes at 11:18 p.m. Monday. The accomplishment is believed to be a world record. His attempt to establish a world record for swimming the most lakes in 24 hours was in honor of his 52-year-old father, John, who died of cancer three years ago. An estimated $2,000 was raised including about $1,700 from contributions taken at the lakes for the American Cancer Society.

ItÕs a big, new wonderful world opening for little Sandy Gibson, The Times Union Calendar Girl for September, as she enters the Madison school for the first time to enroll for kindergarten. Sandy, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Gibson of Silveus addition, was among the 3,031 boys and girls who registered this morning in Warsaw Community Schools. For Sandy, who will be 5 years old in October, it was a moment to long remember as she visions 13 years of school life en route to that coveted high school diploma.
