Neil Shepherd, son of Terry and Joyce Shepherd, Warsaw, is only 14 and soon to be eighth-grader at Edgewood Middle School. He is also a rookie in the modified midget sprint restrictor class at U.S. 24 Speedway in Logansport and also at Camden Raceway. He has steered his bright red No. 4N car to victory in five feature races already this year. His father started racing sprint cars at age 21 and became a household name at the Warsaw Speedway before making it big on the national scene, winning more than 100 feature races in the 1980s and early 1990s. "I watched my Dad race and looked at pictures of him." Neil asked his father if he could race at age 7. He honed his skills in the backyard, driving in circles around a make-shift track on a four-wheeler. He carries the same 4N his dad did during his racing career.

Little area cagers will soon have a basketball court at Center Lake Park that is "just their size." The court is sponsored by Pizza Hut and constructed by Warsaw Park employees. It's specifically designed for children 10 years and younger.
