Warsaw Fire Department members honored 33-year veteran Gene Fancil with a retirement party recently at the Pizza Hut restaurant while a summer rain storm raged outside. Water could be considered a fireman's best friend. So, while, the firefighters and their guests celebrated, the liquid element made an unexpected appearance, causing some flooding in the restaurant - just to say good-bye, Gene.

Biomet, the fifth-largest manufacturer of surgical implants in the world, broke ground recently for a 93,000-square-foot addition which will more than double the size of the existing structure. Those helping with the groundbreaking were: Forrest Miner of Farmers State Bank; Jim Nicholas, vice-president of manufacturing at Biomet; Jim Malcolm, architect for new construction; Congressman John Hiler; Robert General of the Small Business Administration; Chuck Niemier, chief financial officer at Biomet; Niles Noblitt, executive vice president of Biomet; and Dane Miller, president of Biomet.

Dave Evans and Linda Denney were the 18-hole and nine-hole low gross champions in the Rozella Ford Junior Golf Tournament held recently at the local golf course. Forty players participated. Jim McCleary, with a 75, was runner-up to Evans who carded a 74, and Toni Doran, with a 65, was second to Linda's 58. Trophies, medals and certificates were awarded to the winners, while the remaining players received golf balls.

A miniature tornado whirled its way through the region of Leesburg, Tippecanoe Lake resort and North Webster, jeopardizing lives and causing untold havoc to property and crops within its wake. Homes were unroofed, barns blown over, trees uprooted, telephone and light wires torn from their poles. The wind accompanied a thunderstorm which swept the northern section of the county yesterday afternoon about 1:00 o'clock.[[In-content Ad]]
