Sixth-grader Nick Sparkman was able to start off the school year in style, being driven to Harrison Elementary in a limousine, for winning “The Kids’ Limo Contest” drawing at Elder-Beerman. Nick let a couple friends join him, Chris Winslow and Taylor Zigon.
New Whitko School Corp. staff are Mistie Gaff, kindergarten teacher and P.E. assistant, Pierceton Elementary School; Lynn Studebaker, Title I teacher, Whitko Middle School; Lisa Shisler, music teacher, PES and South Whitley Elementary School; Michael McKeighen, math, Whitko High School; Gary McKibben, business teacher, WHS; and Christina Nixon, ag teacher, WMS and WHS.

Mark Hall, distribution and inventory manager at Biomet, took both the “Best Table Topic Speaker” and the “Best Speaker” trophies at the Warsaw Toastmasters Club.
The team of Bill Goshert and Gene Butts shot a 62 in the seniors’ best ball tournament at Rozella Ford Golf Course over the weekend. Tied for second at 63 were the teams of John Hoffer and John Pinkerton and Tom Wyman and John Harrison.
Andy Hostetler of Ideal Construction, Warsaw, was named to the executive club (the top nine dealers) by Borkholders Buildings. He won an Aruba holiday trip.

Scott Langohr, 9, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Langohr, Pierceton, is in his first year of 4-H and has the honor of having the grand champion steer. Al Heierman and his son, James, president and assistant cashier of the People’s State Bank of Leesburg, bought Scott’s 915-pound Black Angus steer with a top bid of $1.02 a pound.
Police Cpl. Eldon Werstler is conducting the investigation and attempting to secure fingerprints of a burglary at the Rudd Appliance Store, 822 E. Winona Ave. The establishment is owned by Allen “Bud” Rudd, 628 Pam St., Warsaw. Listed as missing were three portable television sets valued at $129 each, two transistor radios valued at $39 and $24.95, and one short wave radio valued at $59.

Freddie Wolford, 13, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Wolford, Warsaw, anxious to attend the annual firemen’s convention at Hartford City, was up at 6 a.m. to make sure that he didn’t miss his means of conveyance. He left with the high school band at 8. Freddie’s father is a Warsaw fire truck driver.
Russell Brothers three-ring circus is in town. Curious Warsawans flocked to the Hillery farm south of Warsaw to see the animals. Kids carrying water for elephants, people wide-eyedly gazing at pacing lions. Siberian camels, zebras, ponies and horses alighted and stretched after their 25-mile caravan ride from Plymouth.
