Midwest Foodservice News named The Boathouse Restaurant in Winona Lake one of “The Best of Indiana” restaurants for 2004. The magazine cited the restaurant’s reconstruction to model an actual 1880 boat house, the passion the owners extend to local customers and the dedication to quality. Brothers Jim and Chris Katris and cousin Peter Christos are owners. A national food magazine out of New York requested Chef Jimmy Davila’s recipe for “Garlic Bread Soup.”
Spec. David F. Dittman, son of Vicki Dittman and 2002 graduate of Warsaw Community High School, is stationed at Camp Phoenix in Kubal, Afghanistan, after training in California and Camp Atterbury.

The major league champion Honeybees went the season undefeated. They are Jennifer Cutler, Dawn Curtis, Kristie Lemons, Johnna Fuentes, Angie Young, Missy Lohse, Doreen Bailey, Kelly Matson, Deb Kugler, Kris Poyser, Stefanie and Jennifer Mudd, Heather Hart, Angie Teeple, Amber Titus. Their coaches are Bob Matson and Larry Poyser. The minor league Locusts won the season championship after finishing undefeated, then went on to win the tournament. Locusts are Julie Fribley, Kris and Kendra Thomas, Cari Denney, Amy Perkins, Lindsay Wihebrink, Sara Snively, Heather Horne, Jaime Sumpter, Jennifer Kintzel, Megan Kinsey, Ashley Hamman. Coaches are Dave Kintzel, Gary Thomas, Mike and Judy Kinsey. The intermediate league Hawks are Toni Dove, Sherry Kerby, Cynthia and Michelle Parker, Sara Verhage, Kasey Thomas, Betty Harden, Mandy Armey, Jamie Teel, Carmen Mock, Katrina Siebenmorgan, Beth Wuthrich, Jahna Swanson, Krista Coppes, Erica Watkins, Melissa Hall and Coach Kim Hensley.

During the “Worship in the Round” service Sunday at the Wagon Wheel Playhouse, the Rev. William Vamos opened with his theme, “Is God Dead or Alive?”
Major and Mrs. John J. Shearer, Bucyrus, Ohio, and summer residents of Winona Lake for the past 25 years, treated 12 friends to an ice cream party at the Eskimo Inn in celebration of their 64th wedding anniversary.
Roland Felts, director of music at the First Baptist Church, wrote and directed two Christmas songs for the Rodeheaver Sacred Music Festival.

Geo. Nye: “Warsaw had seven saloons in 1868. The jail was called Castle Cisney, James H. Cisney was sheriff. Two years later the new jail was built and the north and south railroad came through. Warsaw was enjoying a post-war awakening. For four years the citizens had been away to the southlands engaged in fighting for the preservation of the Union.
