Harrison Elementary Principal’s Award, recognizing the outstanding sixth-grade boy and girl, was awarded May 30 to Nicole Stouder, daughter of James and Linda Stouder, and Jacob Macdonald, son of Dr. George and Jane Macdonald. Sixth-grade teachers are Ed Jarrett, Dan Graney, Mindy Stookey and Melissa Lanwerlan. The Megan Easterday Mental Attitude Award was given to Amanda Schroeder, daughter of Ot and Deb Schroeder. Randy Polston is principal of Harrison Elementary.

Steve Petro, president of Petro Brothers Chrysler-Dodge, announced two promotions at the auto dealership. Barry Bailey has been promoted to the position of sales manager after 1-1/2 years as business manager. Before coming to Warsaw, he spent three years as a salesman at a dealership in Terre Haute. Dennis Kelsey was moved into the business manager position. He has been with Petro Brothers for one year, serving as a salesman. He lives in North Manchester. The promotions are effective June 1.

The Elks Athletic Awards were presented to Warsaw High School recipients at their banquet Wednesday: Larry Booth for cross-country, Mike Davis for tennis, Dave Johnson for basketball and track plus the Minear trophy for all sports, Dave Evans for golf and baseball, and Jim Sisk for football. Adolph Rupp, head basketball coach at the University of Kentucky, was guest speaker. The Fisher Award, presented annually by George Fisher, will be given away on Awards Day May 23.
Prof. Paul M. Harmon, Indiana University physiologist, will retire in June after 53 years of association with I.U., including a hand at staging the first Hoosier High School Basketball Tournament in 1911.

On May 22, 1937, the First National Bank of Warsaw opened its doors to the public.
Mr. Nelson, president of the bank, stated to a Times reporter: “We review our first year’s business as a new bank with pleasure and satisfaction. Starting at the bottom, our business has shown a substantial increase each succeeding month. The total resources on this, our first anniversary, are in excess of one-half million dollars. This is a vote of confidence. It has been a pleasure to renew old friendships and to make new friends.” Members of the board of directors are: Judge Donald Vanderveer, A. I. Nelson (also president), Dr. W. Bert Siders (also vice-president), Furel R. Burns, and William Nye. Eugene T. White is cashier; Evelyn S. Wood, W.
