    MUNCIE - Aaron D. Neff, Syracuse, recently was inducted into Alpha Lambda Delta national freshman honorary at Ball State University.

Neff is a freshman majoring in graphic design. He is the son of Rick Neff and Susan Neff.

    Mickie Varney, 14, of 816 E. Fort Wayne St., Warsaw, was crowned the 1983 Pioneer Days Queen during a ceremony on the courthouse lawn in downtown Warsaw. Mickie, the daughter of Bill and Phillis Varney, was chosen from among 11 candidates.

    Jerry Judy and Alice Keiffer of Sidney High School will be attending the high school journalism institute at Indiana University July 27 to Aug. 9. They'll have classes in copywriting, editing, photography and business management.

    Kosciusko County and Warsaw continued to swelter in the heat wave with thermometers in the business district registering as high as 104 degrees. Thermometers in the shade registered between 85 and 90 degrees.
