The county fair officially opens July 19, but the parade was held yesterday. Trish Marshall, chairwoman of the entertainment committee this year, said there were 61 entries, and despite the weather, a good turnout. The Cat Show was held in the activity tent; “Spice,” held by Codi Jo Coates, was selected reserve grand champion and “Joy,” held by Chelsea O’Neil, the grand champion.
4-H Royalty are Jeremy Schroeder, king; Hayley Wertenberger, queen; Scot Goon, prince; and Kara Anderson, princess.
The Salvation Army Emergency Assistance Center was dedicated June 13 at 622 N. Ellsworth St., the former Thrift Store building.

The second annual homemade Summer Rage Boat Race sponsored by Reneker’s Sports Shop will be held at Center Lake as the final event of Pioneer Days. No metals are allowed. One inner tube must be used in each boat. Any amount of rope, cardboard, tape or styrofoam can be used, and a limited amount of wood and plywood. Last year’s winner was a submarine, using paper-mache around a big inner tube; milk jugs, canvas and cardboard were popular last year. Racers will boat out to a certain point in the lake, turn around and come back to the starting line. Many boats fall apart before it’s over.
Deb Starbuck, Warsaw parks activities director, coordinated a drill to test the readiness of the city’s lifeguards at both Pike and Center lakes. Pike Lake lifeguards are Beau Bricker and Doug Lemon; lifeguard supervisor is Bobbi Holder.”

Nine Boy Scouts from Kosciusko County will leave Elkhart Wednesday evening by bus for the National Jamboree at Valley Forge, Pa. where 50,000 Scouts and their leaders will camp on the land where George Washington and his men struggled to rebuild the army during the winter of 1777. Donald Gukenberger, Nappanee, will be Scoutmaster of Scouts Fred Helfrich, Steven O’Reilley, Dave Patterson, Fred Pfeiffer, Sid Sanderson, Robert Whitney, Phillip Jagger, Daniel Kuhn and Robert Niles.
Jack Adams Jr., 209 Ra Mar Dr., reported to Sheriff Sam Holbrook that someone had removed hub-caps from his auto and placed them in the back seat of the vehicle.

Thieves late Saturday night or early Sunday morning broke into the Coca-Cola warehouse on East Winona Avenue and stole $46.58 in coins and bills. Entrance was made by prying open a side window, using a crowbar to pry off the lock leading into the warehouse proper and then prying off the lock on a cabinet in which the money was kept. The robbery was discovered by manager Ott Wiggs when he opened for business Monday morning. Police were able to secure fingerprints.
Warsaw firemen extinguished a muck fire on East Center Street near the M.L. Gochenour residence Monday. The fire was confined to an area three feet square.
Robert “Bobby” Zimmer has served as a Daily Times high school reporter for the past two years and has distinguished himself as one of the best in the field at predicting high school basketball results.
