The Young Tigers football team received permission from the parents of David Fribley to name the football field at Richardson-DuBois Park after the Marine who was killed in action March 23 during Operation Iraqi Freedom. David, from Atwood, was a Warsaw Community High School football player and lettered in other sports during high school. Fribley Field’s first season of play will be next summer. The field is under development this year.

Sgt. Rolf C. Tusing, formerly of Leesburg, and a 10-year veteran of the United States Marine Corps, was selected as “Marine of the Year” for the Marine support battalion, which consists of 10 letter companies worldwide. Tusing, a 1975 graduate of Warsaw Community High School, is a communications operator assigned to the Naval Security Group Department of the U.S. Naval Communications Station in Rota, Spain. His parents are Lee and Waunita Tusing, Route 6, Warsaw.

Home Economics departments of Warsaw Community Schools will present a style show, “Fabrics In Fashion,” in the high school auditorium on East Smith Street. Kathleen Morphew will welcome the audience, after which there will be a sketch, “Looking After Maudie,” featuring Roberta Reynolds, Dick Kehoe, Karen Detwiler, Sonja Johnson and Tim Weaver.
Pauline Elliott, 628 N. Grant St., Warsaw, is among the winners of scholarships in the Indiana University Theatre. Prof. Richard Moody is the director. Pauline is the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Reginald Elliott.

A comparison of the assessment records of 1937 with those just completed for 1938, by County Assessor Harvey D. McCleary shows that there is an increase in motor vehicles in the county of 317 over the previous year. Values and numbers for 1938 follows. There are 7,316 motor vehicles, average value $155 (1937-6,999 motor vehicles, average value $149); farm implements, 2,085, average, $140; household goods, 8,871, average $130; horses, 5,951 head, average $80; mules, 491 head, average $79; milk cows, 13,115 head, average $40; other cattle, 11,490 head, average $23; sheep, 14,779, average $5; sows, 5,053 head, average $25; other hogs, 24,225 head, average $7; poultry, 25,973 dozen, average $6 a dozen.
According to records, there were 500 more dogs received for the dog tax this year than in 1937. A total of 5,000 dogs were tagged this year.[[In-content Ad]]
