The Fourth Annual Master Gardeners garden walk will be June 28. Named “Down the Garden Path,” the walk will feature flowers, trees, shrubs, ornamentals, and a miniature steam train track. The tour includes seven gardens in Warsaw: Gary and Karen Heinzman, Franklin and Sharon Jones, George and Sally Fish, Matt and Rachel Johnson, Jerry and Jackie Long. Also, in Silver Lake: Larry and Mary Ann Swihart, Al Crist. Tickets are available at Ace Hardware (Warsaw, North Webster and Syracuse), Anderson Greenhouse, Kosciusko County Extension Service and Open Air Garden Center. Also, at Center Lake Park on day of walk.

Warsaw resident Bernice Ashman and her twin sister, Beatrice Mobley, of Biloxi, Miss., celebrated their 80th birthday with family and friends in Warsaw. Born in Johnstown, Pa., June 7, 1908, they trained together in nursing at a hospital in Johnstown. Mobley remained there, working in the newborn nursery. Ashman came to Warsaw where she worked at the former McDonald Hospital, Murphy Medical Center, and retired as director of nursing at Prairie-View Rest Home. She and her husband, Robert, have two daughters, Joyce Ashman and Miriam (Ashman) Pacheco, both of Warsaw. Mobley has one son and one daughter, who is also a nurse.

An All-Appaloosa Horse Show will be held this weekend at the Bourbon Fairgrounds, according to Bernard Minear, Warsaw, who is show chairman of the Indiana Appaloosa Association. His daughter, Sheri, will be riding as “Hidden Knife” of the Black Foot Indians. Her brother, Danny, 10, will be riding as “Little Red Duck.” Steve Ault, son of Mr. & Mrs. Tom Ault, Claypool, will ride as Cheyenne Indian Chief Dull Knife. The colorful history of the horse has been traced back to 500 B.C. and it was the Nez Perce Indians of Idaho who brought fame and notoriety to the breed. There are 24,000 registered Appaloosa horses.

Boasting of some of the outstanding pistol and rifle shots in the nation, members of Co. L, Warsaw National Guard unit, engage in weekly practice at the rifle range on the Beyer farm near Warsaw. Posing for the Times cameraman after shooting are Captain Milo D. Snyder, Harvey Grubbs, Sam Wells, Edward Felter, Cecil Archer, Gale Warner and William Kellogg. Snyder, national champion pistol and rifle shot of many tournaments, is coach of the firing and has an ambition to make every member of his company proficient in the use of firearms.[[In-content Ad]]
