April Baxter, director of the Senior Activity Center of Warsaw, was one of 12 recipients recognized as an Administrator of the Year by REAL Services at the Age of Excellence Awards luncheon in South Bend. Before she was hired, the SAC struggled with community involvement.
Turkey buzzards have been showing up at the home of Bill and Jean Bibler in Winona Lake for the past four years. They come on July 12, stay one day and move on. Bill routinely marks the date on his calendar as “Buzzard Day.”
New members of Alpha Lambda Chapter are Kristin Elliott, Stephanie Scott, Holly Ilada, Dawn Baumgardner, Molly Long and Suzanne Deitsch.

Cousin Clem: “John White retired from the United Telephone Company about six years ago and needed a hobby. He has a large collection of carpenter tools of 1900 vintage, planes, saws, wooden mallets, chisels, squares, draw knives, hammers and broad axes. These tools almost were 100 percent handmade, masterpieces of art and convenience. White has the finest collection of cooperage tools that I’ve ever seen. Tools to make the staves, hoops and the grooves for the hoops, tools for smoothing the inside of the barrel. Several iron mallets weigh 10 pounds and are five inches in diameter. Also, several block and tackle sets. John’s hobby has become a business, traveling far and wide.”

Mr. and Mrs. Grover C. Huffman, Akron, will observe their 60th wedding anniversary with an open house July 12 at the Conservation Club House in Silver Lake. The Huffmans were married July 23, 1904, by W.H. Eiler, foster grandfather of Mrs. Huffman, at Warsaw. They have resided in the Akron community for 33 years. Their children are: Eleanor Pollock, Pierceton; Irene Grisso, Sidney; Joe Huffman, South Whitley; Mary Lackey, Claypool; Cecil Huffman, Roann; Mabel Collett, Walbridge, O.; Max Huffman, Akron; Jerry Huffman, St. Louis, Mo.; 29 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren.
Baxter Lee had been hounding his dad, Judge Gene B. Lee, for a hound ever so long. The Judge heard of beagle hound orphans at Etna Green. Baxter fell in love with one of the pups.

Mrs. Elmer B. Funk, local bird authority, gave illustrated lectures Monday and Tuesday before George Fisher’s biology classes at junior high school. She talked on the migration and identification of birds.
Ott Miller is sporting a beautiful shiner he’ll keep for quite awhile. He said he was hit by a roll of roofing when it fell from a truck.
H.M. King, Louisville, Ky., one of the leading church architects, has been employed to draw the plans for the rebuilding of the Claypool Methodist Church which burned March 28. The Rev. Clark says the new plans will contain a number of improvements to the former edifice.
