Professor emeritus Jame Cooper, a well-known bridge consultant, will assist in the restoration of the historic Chinworth Bridge. Cooper has helped preserve several other Indiana bridges and is the author of several books about historic steel and concrete bridges. The bridge is in Tippecanoe Rest Park along Old 30W, just past the City County Athletic Complex. Listed with the National Register of Historic Places, the bridge will be the westernmost point of the Lake City Greenway Bike Pedestrian Trail.

City aviation officials began planning a course of action recently to purchase 65 acres of land adjacent to the east-west runway as a way of  preventing the possible industrial development of the area. Control of the undeveloped tract of land is important in the protection of the east-west runway's approaches, according to airport manager Karen Sheetz, and because of the required air rights. Acquisition of the air rights is required and is part of the airport and city's agreement for federal expansion funds.

Gerald Allen Watkins, 17, and Norman Lee Grubbs, 18, are taking Army basic together at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. Both are three-year enlistees. Gerald, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Dunham, Warsaw, has volunteered for duty in Europe. Norman, son of Mr. and Mrs. George I. Grubbs, Warsaw, will enter finance school. Both recruits majored in math and science at Warsaw High.

Fred Shaffer, who is employed with American Brattice Cloth company of South Buffalo Street, started Thursday for an extended trip through the East. Shaffer expects to hitch-hike and will not return to his home at Winona Lake until his funds are exhausted.[[In-content Ad]]

A September match between the Warsaw and Goshen girls soccer teams resulted in a 1-1 tie after a hard-fought match. Tuesday night, the two teams met for a second time on a much bigger stage: the opening round of the 3A girls soccer sectional tournament at Elkhart High School. With a winner having to emerge this time around, it came down to penalty kicks, with the Lady Tigers winning 5-3 after a 0-0 tie.
