Eight students from Whitko High School participated in national-level business skill competitions at the National Leadership Conference of Business Professionals of America in Cincinnati, Ohio, April 27-May 2. They were Amanda Busz, McKenzie Swihart, Jayanna Begley, Katie Strandlund, Katie Trump, Shelby Kreger, Katie Langohr and Serena Miner. The students are members of the Parliamentary Procedure Team which placed seventh in the nation. Diane Begley, Whitko BPA advisor for 10 years, accompanied the group and was honored at a reception.
Guiliana Davis and Ana Snow are students of the Suzuki Method taught by Jean Stucky. They demonstrate their skills on the violin at Presby Preschool May 14.

Janet Lynch, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Lynch, Claypool, has been selected as an Indiana 4-H Foundation Scholarship winner, one of 30 out of 291 who applied. Dawn Burch, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Burch, Mentone, has been selected as one of 36 Indiana 4-Hers to receive the 1989 REMC Achievement Trip to Washington, D.C. The following 4-Hers had their achievement record book placed in the honor group: Duane Kline, sheep; Shawn Krull, plant and soil science; Jill Sommers, beef; Andi Stroup, forestry, wildlife and fisheries; Janet Studebaker, dairy.
Daniel L. Fulkerson, son of Dave and Eugenia Fulkerson, Warsaw, is valedictorian for the Class of 1989 at Warsaw Community High School. He is graduating with a grade point average of 13.64. Linda Beeson, daughter of Joseph and Lois Beeson, Warsaw, was chosen salutatorian. She graduates with a 13.17 GPA.

O. Louis Driskell, recently released from the U.S. Navy as a Lt. Commander after performing 11 years of active service, and his wife, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Endicott, Winona Lake, are visiting at the home of her parents. They had just returned from Saigon, South Vietnam, where he had been stationed for 21 months. Prior to that, they spent two years in the Philippines. Driskell plans to study for the ministry at the School of Theology in Atlanta, Ga. He formerly lived in Winona Lake and graduated from Warsaw Senior High School in 1948; Mrs. Driskell in 1949. After graduating from Butler University in 1952, he was commissioned in the Navy.
Top Silver Lake athletes are Ken Vanderpool, Mike Hackworth, Joe Shipley and Bob Arnold.

Wayne Township schools are the proud owners of a new sound projector moving picture machine purchased a few weeks ago. The schools were the first in the county to own a silent machine and now lead all others in modernizing their equipment.
School will be dismissed for the year April 28 in most county schools. Originally scheduled for closing April 21, a week longer is necessary to make up the time lost for Thanksgiving, weather conditions, county and sectional tourney vacations.
